Malayan — Theyyam Performing Community

മലയൻ

The Malayan community is one of the principal traditional Theyyam-performing communities of North Malabar. Their ritual heritage is closely associated with sacred groves (കാവ്), village shrines, forest deities, guardian spirits, and ancestral worship. Malayan performers are known for preserving ancient ritual customs, distinctive ceremonial practices, and oral traditions that have been passed down through generations. Their performances continue to be an important part of the cultural identity of northern Kerala.
