About This Temple

The Arudasthanam of Angakulangara Bhagavathy — the presiding abode where the fierce war goddess assumed her seat after her padappurappadu (ritual war march) along the banks of Ankakkulam and her victory over the tyrant Allohalan.

History

Manjathoor Kavu in Pilicode, Kasaragod, is the Arudasthanam — the presiding sacred seat — of Angakulangara Bhagavathy.

According to the aithihyam of the goddess, Angakulangara Bhagavathy emerged from the third eye of Rayaramangalam Amma and undertook a ritual war march (padappurappadu) along the banks of Ankakkulam between Paduvalam and Rayaramangalam. After her fierce battle and the destruction of the tyrant Allohalan, she struck the northern entrance of Rayaramangalam and assumed her position at Manjathoor Kavu.

The goddess forms part of the sacred triad — Paduvalathinkal Paradevatha Moovar — alongside Vishnumoorthi and Raktha Chamundi, whose worship expanded from their initial association with Puthilottu Andol Tharavadu across Alladam Nadu and Kolathunadu.
