Anthithira is one of the most important forms among Muthappan’s kolams, which include Thiruvappana and five other forms. The forms of Muthappan are: Puram Kalan Muthappan, Thuvakkali Muthappan, Aandu Muthappan, Puralimala Muthappan, and Nambala Muthappan. Among these, Aandu Muthappan is known as Anthithira. Anthithira is a combined form that embodies all these five manifestations.

The body painting (mekkezhuthu) and facial makeup (mukhathezhuthu) are that of Thiruvappana. The headgear includes Muthappan’s kodumudi (crown) along with a front floral structure (pookkatti mudi). The performance begins with the procession (purappadu) of Thiruvappana. It is then followed by the gradual dance of Vayanattu Kulavan. After the dance carrying the bamboo torch (mulamchuttu), it moves into the climactic sequences (kalashams) of Muthappan, and from there the form fully transforms into Muthappan.

Anthithira has a very distinctive procession and climax, making it a unique and powerful performance.
