Cheppiladiyamma (also known as Cheyppil Aadi Amma) is revered as the Paradevatha (principal family deity) of the Pothera Tharavad of the Aaru Veedu lineage at Kadannappally.

According to local tradition, the goddess is regarded as the primordial mother from whom the entire lineage originated. The name Cheppilathi is believed to derive from the Malayalam word cheythu (ചേയ്ച്ചത്), meaning "to sprout" or "to originate." Just as a mighty tree grows from a single seed and spreads into countless branches, the Pothera family is believed to have grown and flourished from this divine mother. Thus, Cheppilathi Amma is revered as the ancestral source from whom the various branches (shakha and upashakha) of the lineage emerged.

Because of this belief, the goddess is worshipped not merely as a protective deity but as the spiritual matriarch who sustains the prosperity, continuity, and unity of the entire family.

Performance & Rituals

Cheppiladiyamma is worshipped at the Dharma Daiva Sthanam (Kelothara) of the Pothera Tharavad in Kadannappally. As the ancestral guardian deity of the lineage, she receives traditional offerings and ritual worship performed by members of the family during annual ceremonies and festivals.

Her Theyyam performance invokes the blessings of the ancestral mother, and devotees seek her protection, guidance, prosperity, and the continued well-being of all branches of the family.
