Shoolappil Bhagavathy is the presiding deity of a relatively small region extending from Pallikki Parappu to Shoolappu Kavu, an area that corresponds to present-day Kodakkad village. The Theyyam form worshipped at Rayaramangalam, where she holds dominion, is regarded as the manifestation of this goddess.

According to tradition, a renowned magician named Kammoth Nair from Cheemeni once visited Rayaramangalathamma and received her darshan. As he began his return journey, the goddess, impressed by his devotion and spiritual greatness, decided that she should not let him leave alone. She secretly followed him toward Cheemeni, travelling beneath the earth through the netherworld. After moving eastward for some distance, she arrived at a large rocky outcrop rising on the northern side of the Kodakkad paddy fields. There she beheld a beautiful landscape: a vast rock formation covered with lush greenery, vines, and vegetation, along with a clear spring of fresh water emerging from the rock itself. The sight was so enchanting that she paused there to rest. Looking southward, she was captivated by the green expanse of the Kodakkad fields stretching before her. Pleased with the place, she chose the rocky spring, known as Shilappu, as her sacred abode. After making this decision, she continued her journey alongside Kammoth Nair.

Over time, the name Shilappu gradually evolved into Shoolappu. The spring at Shoolappu Kavu became a vital source of water and sustenance for the people of Kodakkad village. During this period, a man named Chenthatta Theeyan, who was engaged in clearing forests and cultivating land in the area, received a divine vision of the goddess in her cosmic form. As an act of devotion, he offered tender coconut water to her, thus performing the first act of worship and pleasing the goddess.

Thereafter, accompanying her devotee, Bhagavathy proceeded to a residence located at a place known as Pallikkandam, at the southern edge of the Kodakkad fields, where she established her presence. Following this manifestation, her first seat of worship became the ancestral home of Chenthatta Theeyan. Later, the goddess also established herself at the ancestral house of Morakkattu Nambi. Still not content with limiting her presence to a single place, she extended her divine influence further and established sacred seats in the households of Kunnath Illam and Paliyeri Thaivalappu as well. From then onward, bestowing prosperity, abundance, and well-being upon the people, Shoolappil Bhagavathy came to be revered as the guardian deity of the region, a role she continues to hold to this day.
